How to Send a Reel or TikTok to ChatGPT (on iPhone and Android)

You can't send a Reel or TikTok to ChatGPT by pasting the link. ChatGPT doesn't play the video behind it, so it never hears what's said or sees what's on screen, and it answers from the text around it or guesses.

To get the video itself in, you have to save it and upload it. Here's that long way, and the short way.

Why pasting the link doesn't work

An Instagram or TikTok link opens a page with a video player on it. ChatGPT can read web pages, but it doesn't press play. The hook, the spoken script and the on-screen text, which is everything you actually want to ask about, never reach it.

The long way: save, upload, add context

  1. Save the video. On Instagram, tap the share arrow on the Reel, then Download, if the creator allows downloads. On TikTok, tap Share → Save video. No download option? Screen-record it: on iPhone, open Control Center and tap Screen Recording; on Android, use the Screen record tile in Quick Settings.
  2. Trim it. Screen recordings catch the app's buttons and a few extra seconds at each end.
  3. Upload it to ChatGPT. Open the app, tap + and pick the video from your Photos or Gallery. Files can be up to 512 MB, but video isn't on OpenAI's list of supported file types, so depending on your plan and app version it may be refused or only partly understood.
  4. Paste the caption and the creator's handle. The file doesn't carry them, and they're often half the context.
  5. Ask your question.

Five steps, for every single Reel.

The live way: share your screen

On iPhone and Android, eligible subscribers can share their screen in ChatGPT Voice (Advanced): start a voice conversation, open the more-options menu, tap Share Screen, then play the Reel in Instagram or TikTok. ChatGPT sees it as it plays, but it's live, so nothing is saved for you to come back to.

The short way: paste the link into Rescroll

  1. Copy the link: Share → Copy link on Instagram or TikTok.
  2. Paste it into Rescroll, on your phone or your computer.
  3. Ask anything: "Summarize this", "What's the hook?", "Write me a script in this style."

Rescroll watches the video itself, the transcript and what happens on screen, so there's nothing to download, trim or retype. It works the same with YouTube and LinkedIn videos, and every video you add stays in your library, so later you can ask about ten Reels at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT watch an Instagram Reel from a link? No. Pasting a Reel or TikTok link doesn't let ChatGPT play the video, so it can't hear what's said or see what's on screen. To get the video itself in, save it and upload it, or paste the link into a tool that watches it, like Rescroll.

How do I send a reel to ChatGPT on iPhone? Save the Reel to Photos (Share, then Download if the creator allows it, or screen-record it), open ChatGPT, tap + and attach the video. Then paste the caption and the creator's handle, because the video file doesn't carry them.

Why won't ChatGPT take my Reel? Video isn't on OpenAI's list of supported file types, and every file is capped at 512 MB. Depending on your plan and app version, a video upload can be refused or only partly understood.

Is there a faster way to send a Reel or TikTok to AI? Copy the link and paste it into Rescroll. It watches the video, both the transcript and what's on screen, and you can ask about it straight away.
