How to Add Motion Graphics in Premiere Pro in 2026 (Where Essential Graphics Went)

If you went looking for the Essential Graphics panel and couldn't find it, you're not imagining things. Adobe retired it in Premiere version 25 and split its job in two. (Adobe's own pages now call the app just "Adobe Premiere", but it's the same Premiere Pro.)

Here's where everything lives now, and how to add motion graphics in Premiere step by step.

Where things moved

  • Editing text and graphics — font, colour, alignment, position, keyframes — happens in the Properties panel.
  • Browsing and installing templates (.mogrt files, Adobe Stock) happens in the Graphics Templates panel: Window > Graphics Templates.

Once you know that, the rest will feel familiar.

1. Add text

Pick the Type tool and click in the Program Monitor, or use Graphics > New Layer > Text. Type your text, then style it in the Properties panel.

Keep it short and big. Three to six words per graphic, readable on a phone at arm's length.

2. Animate it with keyframes

  1. Select the text layer.
  2. In the Properties panel, under Align and Transform, click the stopwatch next to Position, Scale, Rotation or Opacity. It turns blue when animation is on, and adds the first keyframe.
  3. Move the playhead to where the motion should end and change the value. Premiere adds the second keyframe and animates between them.

The Effect Controls panel still works the same way if you prefer it, with a keyframe timeline beside each property.

Tip: a quick slide-and-fade (Position plus Opacity over about a third of a second) covers most text entrances. Use the same one for every graphic in the video.

3. Or drag on a built-in animation

Premiere now ships with a library of ready-made effects, transitions and text and graphic animations in the Effects panel. Drag one onto a text layer and adjust it. It's the fastest way to get something moving without setting keyframes yourself.

4. Use motion graphics templates (.mogrt)

Templates are graphics someone built in After Effects and packaged so you can edit the text, colours and timing in Premiere.

To install one: open Window > Graphics Templates, click the Install Motion Graphics template icon at the top right and choose the .mogrt file, or drag it into the My Templates tab.

To use one: drag it from My Templates onto a video track above your footage, then customize it in the Properties panel.

From Adobe Stock: in Graphics Templates, open the Adobe Stock tab, search, and filter by Free or Premium. Dragging a Stock template to your sequence licenses it.

Placement and timing are still on you

Premiere doesn't know where you are in the frame. Keep graphics off your face and hands, and on vertical exports keep clear of the right edge and bottom fifth where the app UI sits. Then line each graphic up with the word it illustrates using the waveform. More in how to add motion graphics to a talking-head video.

When the graphic you need doesn't exist

Premiere is excellent for text, simple movement and templates. It gets slow when you need something custom — your real app screen, a chart of your numbers, a text thread, a branded sponsor card. That's After Effects territory, and a learning curve of its own. (Here's what motion graphics cost if you'd rather hire it out.)

The other route is Rescroll AI Motion Graphics. Export your cut from Premiere, drop it into Rescroll, and describe each moment in plain English: "when I say 'our dashboard', slide the attached screenshot in beside me and zoom into the revenue number." Rescroll designs the graphic, places it clear of you, lands it on the exact word and exports a finished MP4 — which you can post as-is or bring back into Premiere to finish.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Essential Graphics panel in Premiere Pro? It was retired in Premiere version 25. Editing text and graphics moved to the Properties panel, and browsing and installing templates moved to the Graphics Templates panel (Window > Graphics Templates).

How do I install a .mogrt file in Premiere Pro? Open Window > Graphics Templates, click the Install Motion Graphics template icon at the top right and choose the .mogrt file — or drag the file into the My Templates tab. Then drag the template onto a video track and customize it in the Properties panel.

How do I animate text in Premiere Pro? Select the text layer, and in the Properties panel under Align and Transform click the stopwatch next to Position, Scale, Rotation or Opacity to turn on animation. Move the playhead, change the value, and Premiere adds a keyframe. Premiere also includes ready-made text animations in the Effects panel that you can drag onto a layer.

Do I need After Effects for motion graphics in Premiere? Not for simple ones — Premiere's text tools, keyframes, built-in animations and motion graphics templates cover a lot. After Effects is for building complex or custom graphics, including your own .mogrt templates. An AI tool like Rescroll can also build custom graphics on your video from a description, without either.
